What Your Kids Really Need

What Your Kids Really Need
Today I had a lot of noise coming from my neighbor’s house. They must have had some kind of party going because the kids were running and screaming and having so much fun!

It got me thinking about what it is that kids really need. Obviously, I don’t need to tell you that they need the basics. They need food, water, and shelter. I could talk for a long time about quality food and water, but today I want to talk about something beyond the basics.

One of the most important things they need is love. They need to know that you care. You need to tell them. You need to show them with lots of hugs and kisses. Physical affection is very important for a child. They need it because it helps them feel loved and secure.

You also need to do things that show you love them. One of those is boundaries. Most people don’t understand boundaries at all. People think that saying yes to their child all the time is a way to show them that they love them. It actually makes the child feel that they have to be in control, but what they really need is to know that someone is looking out for them.

As they grow older, they do need to gain more control over their lives. They need to learn to control their emotions for example, but we give them little bits as they go. When they are little, they need to know their boundaries. It makes them feel secure and safe.

Believe me, you will raise a better human when your child has boundaries. They need to know what they can and can’t do. Now of course they will push these boundaries, but you need to stand strong. Your adult child will thank you and respect you for it.

Your kids need boundaries. They need to know that you are in control. Just as much as they need food and water, they need boundaries for their emotional health.

Take a look at this video where I talk about a few more things your child needs.

Some of those things are things that you need as an adult as well. And they may just surprise you!
